"Where's my Dog House"???

I laugh whenever I look at this picture because Bailey came running into the "basement" and sniffed everything and kept looking all around and then stood here as if to say, "Where's my spot"? He is such a ham! He has loved the routine of going down with Gerry for the morning, swimming, laying in the truck with the A/C on (yes...he's VERY spoiled). When I come home, I have gone running down to the lake property and brought him back with me on the leash. He's a 12 y/o Lab and getting to be an old man. He's starting to have problems with his hind legs and we try to keep him moving as much as we can.

This is where we are at so far. This doesn't show, but the back wall is up too. It's coming right along! John has his stuff mostly packed and in the process of selling his house for the journey to Maine! Yes, he will be a "transplant" as Mainers sometimes call those that move here from out of state. :-) Everything is going along smoothly now that we've FIANLLY been able to start after such a wet spring! We should be finished by fall! At least so that John can move in. There will be things that Gerry will pick away at this winter.

I am off to get ready for our big SUMMER PARTY! I will post pictures from that once I get back! Have a beautiful Saturday!

After the Storm...

This was the scene after the big storm that hit parts of Maine this week! This is what half of the road looked like coming home late Tuesday night.... only with fog and NO STREET LIGHTS!!!!

Power was restored within 24 hours! Gerry kept the generator going so that we would not lose food in the freezer and refrigerator. When I mentioned "High End Camping" in my previous post.....living off the generator was the "high end camping"....in my house! :-) Ha, ha, ha! The crews are still cleaning up the mess on the road. What a huge disaster for most of Maine in a matter of 7 minutes. It is AMAZING, the power that nature has!

High-End Camping!!!!

We have been without power since yesterday after the big THUNDERSTORM that ran through Maine! I don't have regular access to email and do not have all addresses with me but those of you that read my blog, just know as soon as I can be in touch with you, I will! I will be under "camping" conditions at home. Those of you that know me will giggle about that! I haven't camped in years and as I have aged, I call camping....some place with no power that has the luxury of water/shower and nice beds to sleep on!! He, he, he! :-)

My First CUCUMBER!!!!!

I keep watching my garden, WAITING for the first cucumber to be big enough to pick! Now, I have watched the cucumbers every night since Friday. I didn't see anything but the beginning of a cucumber. Tonight, I just happened to go over to look at my tomatoes and I felt the need to look at my cucumber patch! To my very own SURPRISE, I found this one, already to be sliced and eaten! Lunch for tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YUMMMMMMMMYYYYY!!!

Mr. Frog is out splish-splashing!

I was taking a picture of the reflection of the trees in the pond last night when I heard something splashing around.....I spotted Mr. Frog! He happened to be very photogenic last night! :-) This is the guy responsible for keeping me on many nights while he sings love songs from the pond! I don't think he's smart enough to realize that "voices" carry over water....:-) I told him that although he had a beautiful voice, to KEEP IT DOWN! I don't think he took it well because he took off under water....:-)

The "Big Dig"...In Maine!!

Building John's house has been set back six weeks due to RAIN! It reminds me of the "Big Dig" project in Mass. At least THIS project WILL get done! John has sold the house and will be "homeless" temporarily. We are hoping to get everything ready with the foundation as Gerry has taken time off of work to start building this beauty! :-)

We took Justine down to see the "Big Dig". I was trying to get a "side profile" picture of her so that I could show off her little pregnant belly! Little Samuel is quickly growing! I have been trying to teach him some manipulative tactics while he is in the womb....he, he, he! Justine is very skilled in this area so I'm sure there will not be too much of a learning curve as most of it will be HEREDITARY! :-)))) Ha, ha, ha!!!

An Alien has Invaded Gerry's body....

Yes, what you are seeing is REAL....Gerry picking strawberries with me!!! In the six years I have known my husband, we have never gone strawberry picking together. In fact, I generally go with his friend Gary and Gary's family. This year it was only ME! No manipulation on my part!!!! I asked Gerry if he would like to accompany me this year and he said, "Sure"! I was soooooo excited, I brought my camera to capture it on film! :-)

So my friends, I live to tell that it IS TRUE....Anything IS possible!

Happy 4th of July!

These were the fireworks we saw sitting on my front porch! We didn't even have to leave home! :-)

Nize and I continued to perfect the Mojito....about this time---we finally got it....at least it tasted like the one in the bar so many Mojito's later! We ended up staying in for the 4th and enjoying a little BBQ. Nize and I were sporting some patriotic attire! You cannot see in the picture but Nize even had "flicker flockers" with stars and stripes!!! I started singing, "My country tis of thee, sweet land of liberty"... We laughed so hard! What a good time!

Gerry erected our flag that snapped off in the middle of the winter. How appropriate to raise it on Independence Day! What a really awesome picture....notice the flag in the background!

A Day in the Life of The Duchess....

Gerry's sister, Geniza, made it to Maine!!!! She flew in on her boss' PRIVATE JET to join us for the holiday weekend! We were so excited! She forgot part of her luggage on the plane so Gerry and I were given an opportunity to see the elegance of which she flew! Geniza was still on "company time" and needed to deliver paperwork to the Yacht that her boss was going to be on for the next several weeks! The crew called her by her nick-name, "Nize" and brought us on board for a tour! Ya whooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the crew members must have noted the "duchess" in me and immediately peeled the cover off the leather fighting chair and told me to have a seat! :-) It was only a matter of time before Gerry and Geniza thought I would be going out to sea and living the high life! :-)

Of course we couldn't leave town without stopping for a cocktail! Geniza introduced me to Mojito's!!!!!!! It's a rum based cocktail made with fresh mint! YUMMMMM!!!! We ended up stopping at a winery/green house (only in Maine) on our way back home and bought three mint plants to make our own mojito's at home! They were not the same and we later determined (many drinks later) that it was the type of rum we were using. Of course neither one of us turned the cocktail down....THAT would be a cardinal sin! :-)

We had such a great time! Nize finally made it back home after spending nearly 10 hours at the airport trying to get back home. She was a trooper...no airline employees died yesterday! Ha, ha, ha!!!! She got in around midnight and reports back to work tomorrow! I told her it might be appropriate for us to wait before mailing her table she bought. I told her it could end like some Seinfeld episode where someone recognizes her name on the package and the table ends up in Fiji being used for fire wood!!!! Ha, ha, ha!

THANKS sweetie for making the trip up and spending time with Gerry and I! We loved catching up and meeting Phil & Sandy!

P.S. Joleeen....I hope this makes your day!!!!!!!!!!!!!
